Story Problem Types

When solving problems, the important question should be "is the answer reasonable, does it make sense"?
For those that really struggle with word problems help them understand word stories first.  five them all the information as well as the answer and then model and act it out.  When they get better then switch to the traditional style word problem.

For example, a word story would be: Tyler has 37 cars on Monday.  He gives his sister 5 on Tuesday.  Tyler now has 32 cars.  While the traditional style would conclude with: Tyler has 37 cars on Monday.  He gives his sister 5 on Tuesday.  How many cards does Tyler have now?
