Summer Math Help
Looking for ideas to help your child this summer with his/her Math skills? Check out these fun, easy ways to do just that!
- Kentucky’s Summer Math Challenge is a free math skills maintenance program based on grade-level standards that help prepare students for college and careers. The target audience is students who have just completed grades 1-7. The program runs June 20-July 29. Parents will receive daily emails with fun activities and links to educational resources. - The Kentucky Numeracy Project has an array of resources designed just for families that will reinforce math skills. Building Number Sense
Card games aren't just for grown-ups! Any card or board game that requires your child to manipulate and think about numbers strategically will build number sense and improve your child's mental math. We can't remediate based on "he missed question 4." We have to look deeper to understand the mistakes children are making. How did your children/students solve the problem? What strategy did they use? Did they use a higher level of thinking beyond the standard algorithm? Could they apply mental math to the same problem?
